Holiday Gift Guide 2010: For the Indie Queen

The indie girl. She's in the know on all things "cool" - listens to the best new bands, loves yoga and occasionally restricts herself to a raw food diet, has an off-beat sense of style thats quirky, vintage-inspired and always very unique. Maybe she is the little sister or cousin in college or that super sweet creative coworker on your gift list.

Get indies something unique, but useful, like a cozy scarf or gloves, pretty gemstone jewelry or a versatile leather bag. They'll appreciate the thoughtfulness and functionality of the gift.

Leather Watches are all the rage but a co-worker asked me a very good question yesterday. What about affordable leather watches that are still equally chic? There are ton of ceramic and stainless steel steals on the market from very trendy brands but the leather look is much harder to find. Of course, we would all die for Cartier... but its just not that realistic for us all, especially if you are looking for a trend watch.

My favorite leather-band watch is this Marc by Marc Jacobs pick. The look of this watch is certainly a modern twist on the classic leather look - its fun and young! We love the burgundy face and strong gold detailing around the face. It's aesthetically very Marc but its a little more sophisticated then some of his other more quirky jewelry pieces. It would make a great addition to fall's preppy or military styles.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Amy Leather Strap Watch is $150 and available at Saks.

Fall Trend Recap '10 - All About Camel

Camel is definitely the must-have color of the season and we are seeing it everywhere from clothes to shoes to bags and even jewelry!
The best way to wear Fall's hottest shade is monochromatically. Layer multiple camel pieces together (doesn't matter if they are a perfect match) and include one POP accessory in a different color - such as a bag in a deeper brown or belt in hunter green.

All About Camel Breakdown:

MARC BY MARC JACOBS "Lydia" Necklace, 47"L

I really enjoy this funky/casual necklace by Marc by Marc Jacobs. Fun, vibrant and relaxed its the perfect bling for a Friday! Marc by Marc Jacobs is one of my all time fav. designers and this piece just screams Jacob's signature playful yet ultra modern/utilitarian style.

This is the perfect necklace to pair with the ultimate season-less go to outfit: skinny jeans and a white tee. The bright pink shoelace string chain and resin bolts in a rainbow of fall's hottest colors (orange, cobalt blue and khaki green) add just the right amount of pzazz, color and style to a simple look.

The Marc By Marc Jacobs "Lydia" necklace is $195 and available at Bloomingdales.

What I Wore Weekends

It's been a busy weekend but I think its safe to say wedding season has begun! We have two (count it), two bridal showers this weekend - one on Long Island and on in NYC.

I dont usually like to do posts featuring moi, but my weekend escapades inspired me to start a new series on the blog called "What I Wore Weekends" where I break down my fav. looks from my weekend, how I wore them, accessorized them and where I went with them.

Its a challenge to have two bridal showers in a row, as I had to plan two cute (similar) looks to wear back to back. My challenges? Unusually warm weather in the New York area and skin thats peeling like woah after my sunburn from St. Lucia. I solved both by wearing cap sleeve sundresses and purchasing an Ann Taylor cardigan with elbow length sleeves (although it was too hot to wear today!)

Shower 1 was a beautiful Long Island shower at an adorable eatery out east. The shower was for a very good friend of mine from high school and I wanted to look put together yet still casual and country-ish. I opted for a Marc by Marc Jacobs cotton sundress in liliac from last season and accessorized it with the thin cardigan from Ann Taylor with crystal buttons, long layers of pearls and silver chains and blush colored ribbons, my bone "bow" sling back nude pumps and blush Marc Jacobs bag. I dont have a great picture yet but here is a snippet of the look below. I'm calling this look "vintage chic."
I'm on the right in both pics with my friend from HS, Lindsey...

For bridal shower #2, my college friend, Lindsay's, at the swanky Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC I opted for a bolder, more dressed up look. I paired my silk chiffon tiered Ombre Madison Marcus dress I got at Intermix two years ago and am still L-O-V-I-N-G with black CL pumps, my black Chanel quilted bag, and layers of gold and crystal J. Crew long necklaces and Michael Kors gold watch. I'm calling this one "city sophisticate."

All in all, I think both looks were appropriate and fun and very me! And now off to the bachelorette parties!
